This song was written by David mostly, with a little help from Stephanie, and David's brother, Harrell. The photograph in the copyright section of the book "The Gospel Song & Story Book" was taken by David and Harrell's sister Judi (Mann) Mavromatis in Christmas of 1963. Harrell has been playing trumpet ever since! And David took up the drums when he was 10, so you can imagine what it was like around their house! Actually, their parents encouraged them to pursue their interests! So David has vivid memories of hearing Harrell practicing his trumpet while they were growing up together, and even into Harrell's college years.
So, when David began to write this song with a trumpet as the lead, he had his brother in mind! The song is basically the gospel story from nativity to eternity. It tells of Jesus' birth and life, death, burial, and ressurection. It is the same simple message that has been around for over 2000 years. Even a child can understand it. And it was a real joy for David to be able to share Harrell's awesome talent with the world through the greatest Story ever told!

We wanted to help believers realize "who" they are in Christ Jesus and to give them an assurance of their salvation. Salvation is a "gift" from God. It is not "earned", and there is nothing we can do but receive it (Eph 2:8,9). And once we have it, we are told in the Bible that we can not lose it (John 5:24).

This song is based on Psalm 63. What started out as a dreary, cloud-filled day for David, turned into a day of praise to the Lord. David's brother Harrell called to see how David was doing. After hearing how David's mood matched the weather, Harrell suggested that David should write a song. And, no kidding, the sun broke out briefly from behind the clouds at that moment. So David sat down on the couch, and picked up his bible that was open on the coffee table. It was opened to Psalm 63, and the words began to flow with a melody.

Read the book of Ecclesiastes and and you'll get a good idea of what this song is about. If you really think about it, all that really matters in this life is what we do for the Lord. Everything else is just like chasing the wind!
